What is the spiritual significance of marriage? What is God's thinking about marriage?
In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth. Then He created man and woman to live a harmonious relationship, a relationship of love and trust between them and with Him. God entrusted Adam with the responsibility of managing the garden and keeping it. Then God said that it was not good (or favorable) for Adam to be alone. So, He created the woman to help her fulfill her role as guardian, to help her in her responsibility, in her ministry.
But sin has tainted these two relationships. Adam and Eve preferred to listen to their instinct rather than God. They questioned God's love for them and put aside trust in what God told them.
The relationship between God and men has been broken. However, God did not want to end this relationship. Instead of divorcing from His creation, He offered Himself, through the gift of His Son Jesus Christ, to restore this relationship.
Likewise, the relationship between man and woman has been altered by sin. Having lost their identity, they lost the ability to be a husband and wife according to God. But again, the coming of Jesus Christ allows the restoration of the relationship between man and his wife.
And all of it comes from God, who has reconciled us to him through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18)
The key, the source of the couple's reconciliation, is therefore in no one else but Jesus Christ. Yes, we can find solutions, read books on relationships couples, go see marriage counselors, look for miracle recipes for healthy couple, we will always come back to the same point: JESUS-CHRIST !!!
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church, and gave himself up for her, to sanctify her by the word, after purifying her with the baptism of water, to make her appear before her this glorious Church, without spot, wrinkle, or anything like it, but holy and blameless (Ephesians 5: 25-27) This mystery is great; I say this in relation to Christ and the Church. (Ephesians 5:32)
At the beginning of creation God made man and woman; wherefore the man shall leave his father and his mother, and bind himself to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. (Mark 10: 6-8)
Marriage is a mystery. Marriage is a reflection of Christ's relationship with his wife, the Church.
As the man leaves his father and mother to cling to his wife (Mark 10: 6), so did Jesus Christ leave His heavenly Father, concerning His divinity, and His earthly mother with regard to His humanity, in order to attach himself forever to His wife, the Church.
Adam had to be asleep for the woman to be trained from his side. Adam's sleep is therefore an image of the death of Christ on the cross. He has surrendered Himself for the Church.
The woman was formed from Adam's rib. This is the image of the pierced side of Christ from which water and blood flow. The blood (which is life, according to Leviticus 17:11) and the Word (which is Spirit and Life - John 6:63) gave birth to the Church, purify it, sanctify it and give it access by Jesus Christ to the eternal life and reign. Thewaterwho also represents the water of baptism, purifies the bride. She adorns herself with her beautiful and glorious white dress of fine linen, without stain or wrinkle to be presented to her Bridegroom, holy and flawless, adapted to Him, to His nature, like Him. So Christ can say just like Adam "now here is the bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh "The one with whom I form the same spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17), the one who is my body (Ephesians 5:23).
Wow what a wonderful mystery !!!!! What wisdom and divine intelligence! What grace, what a love!
That's why the devil does not like marriage and tries by all means to destroy it. The devil hates everything that relates to Jesus, everything that reminds him of his defeat at the cross. He seeks to destroy marriages and as if that were not enough for him, he seeks to taint the image of the relationship between Christ and his Church by replacing it with other unions such as same-sex marriage. So on the one hand couples who are supposed to announce the union of Christ and the Church seek to divorce and on the other side, couples according to the devil form ... Brothers and sisters it is not necessary that he be so! Let's not leave this victory to the enemy. Let us fight for our marriages, so that the glory of Christ shines on this earth through the witness of our marriages.
The relationship between man and his wife in marriage is to reflect the relationship between Jesus Christ and His redeemed. But with the sin between the two, that is impossible. It is by accepting to come to Jesus, by faith in His sacrifice on the cross for us, after having clothed ourselves in this pure and unblemished dress, that everything becomes possible.
May God help us!
